Trade exchange between FR Germany and Serbia in the period January-October 2009 in decline

Unfortunately, the consequences of the global economic crisis in 2009 did not spare the trade relations between Germany and Serbia. The Delegate Office of German Industry and Commerce to Belgrade presents the latest information provided by the German Statistics Institute, according to which the trade exchange between FR Germany and Serbia in 2009 will be at significantly lower level than the one in 2008, and it is the most likely that it won't exceed the projected 2 billion EUR.

The exchange of goods in both directions was smaller, but, after several years of constant growth of import to Serbia, the foreign-trade deficit with Germany will drop from nearly 1 billion to about 600m EUR. At the same time, export of Serbian goods to FR Germany, which reached 766.36m EUR in 2008, dropped significantly.

It is expected that, after the data for November and December are processed, Serbia's export in 2009 will be at approximately the same level as in 2006 when it amounted to 519.2m EUR. However, growing interest of both sides in further promotion of economic and bilateral cooperation between the two countries shows that their trade exchange in 2010 will register growth again.
