The works on the Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade are continuing as planned despite the crisis. The Nikola Tesla Airport has opened a public procurement procedure for expert supervision over the construction of a new runway and the reconstruction of the existing one.

As said in the documentation, the reconstruction of the existing runway demands its closing, which is why the construction of an inserted runway is planned.

After the existing runway is reconstructed, the inserted runway could be used as a parallel taxiway and for any unforeseen situations on the main one, in case of repair.

The inserted runway should be 3,500 meters long and 60 meters wide, including the safety areas.

The construction of four taxiways for a quick exit of aircraft from the main runway and a system of connections between the inserted runway and the parallel A taxiway is planned too.

The existing runway was built in 1962. Its initial length of 3,000 meters was later extended to 3,400 meters.

Bids may be submitted by May 8, 2020.
