Surfix by Agrounik Provides 24-Hour Virus Protection – Innovative Biological Antiviral Disinfectant to be Available in Two Weeks

The Simanovci-based company Agrounik, which has been active in innovations and research in biotechnical sciences for 18 years now, is developing an innovative biological disinfectant with antiviral and antibacterial effects.

As the company's owner, Snezana Djordjevic, announced for eKapija, this natural product called Surfix, which will be meant for countering coronavirus, will be available in around 15 days.

Surfix is one of the 12 innovative project financed by the Innovation Fund, and Agrounik is developing it in cooperation with the Faculty of Chemistry and the Torlak Virology Institute, according to our interviewee.

– The viruses which spread through droplets, such as coronavirus, can survive in an external environment, that is, on objects and hands, for a long period of time, increasing the possibility of infection. Traditional chemical disinfectants have a limited effect, and they are also not natural and not good for the skin, as they cause it to break with time, so the virus can penetrate the pores of the damaged skin.

On the other hand, Surfix is a fully natural, biological disinfectant for hands and working surfaces and floors.

Djordjevic explains that, upon application, Surfix forms a layer of biofilm containing beneficial, probiotic bacteria, which can survive for a whole day on these surfaces, providing protection from the virus.

The “secret” of these probiotic bacteria, she adds, is that they produce various substances which reduce the ability of the virus to survive on treated surfaces.

– The final deadline for the completion of all tests and the beginning of production is April 30, but it is likely to happen sooner, as we are working around the clock and expect Surfix to be ready in 15 days – our interviewee says.

Djordjevic notes that Agrounik will give the first 10 tons of Surfix to the state, that is, to the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, which will further distribute it where needed.

– Considering that we produce microbiological products for the treatment of soil, seeds, the cleaning of waste waters, protection of plants and that we have the production capacities, Surfix will soon become available in the local and the foreign market. We will continue our research to the end of expanding the antiviral effects of the product to cover more groups of viruses – Snezana Djordjevic says.
