Russians interested in building subway and tunnels in Belgrade – Mosmetrostroy also looking to finance rail car plant

The Russian company Mosmetrostroy has offered to build and finance the construction of the subway system in Belgrade and the tunnel from Kamenicka Street and Despota Stefana Blvd, beneath Topcider, to Autokomanda.

The Russians handed over the letter of intent to the three-member Serbian delegation at the meeting held on December 20, 2019, and also invited state and city officials to visit Moscow and the company's headquarters, Vecernje Novosti reports.

In addition to the offer for carrying out the works as a turnkey project, they also offered to finance and build a factory of rail cars and spare parts for the subway system, the daily writes.

The City of Belgrade has also entered serious negotiations with French and Chinese companies about the construction of the subway system, so it is not very likely that the Russian company will get involved in the project.

However, it can be expected for it to be included in the construction of the two tunnels.

As Novosti writes, Mosmetrostroy is also offering to help with providing the funds for the construction. This Moscow-based public enterprise employs 14,000 people and is ready to realize all three projects as turnkey projects, respecting the fact that Belgrade's priorities are the subway and the tunnel beneath the city center, whereas the excavation works underneath Topcider would be carried out in the next phase.

Mosmetrostroy is also offering to help organize the company which would realize these projects.
