A squash (“ludaja”) from Kikinda of 395.4 centimeters is the longest one in the world and has entered the Guinness World Records. The owner, Goran Lazic, has now received an official certificate.

The squash was measured in Mozirje, near Ljubljana, on September 21, 2019, at the Slovenian national tournament.

The previous Guinness record from 2015 was 379 centimeters.

– I transported the squash by bus, and if it had been only two centimeters longer, it would not have fit in the trunk. When they saw it, everybody laughed, the driver, the ticket inspector and the passengers, and the Croatian customs officers crossed themselves – Lazic says for Novosti.

He grew the squash in his garden, but he first treated the soil with peat. He had invested RSD 150,000 in the garden, where another two award-winning squashes were grown last summer, one of which broke the national record.

Recently, he invested EUR 1,600 in raising a plastic green house, and this spring he will plant a new crop of squashes.

– I plan to grow four giant pumpkins. My aim is to break the world record in this category too, which is now 1,190 kilograms. It can be done, but it takes plenty of sacrifice – Goran Lazic says.
