The agreement between Serbia and Russia on the handing over of the page to Serbia and seven paintings by Nicholas Roerich, currently at the National Museum in Belgrade, to Russia is the last step in the process of completing Serbia's oldest surviving illustrated Cyrillic manuscript, Vecernje Novosti reports.
The currently missing page was taken from Miroslav's Gospel from Hilandar to Russia by scientist Petar Uspenski. Since 1845, it has been kept at the National Library of Russia.
The Gospel is a first-category document and is invaluable. In 2005, it was included in the UNESCO's Memory of the World Register. It is part of the National Museum of Serbia's collection and can only be exhibited for ten days a year.
