Belgrade to host 2022 World Athletics Indoor Championship

The City of Belgrade will be the host of the 2022 World Athletics Indoor Championship, as decided at the World Athletics meeting in Monte Carlo after a presentation made by the Athletics Federation of Serbia.

It was pointed out at the meeting that the accommodation capacities, the proximity of the airport and the experience in organizing tournaments were the deciding factors for the Serbian capital to get the honor.

After the 2017 European Athletics Indoor Championships, Belgrade will once again be host to the world's best athletes. The world tournament will be held between March 11 and 14, 2022, at Stark Arena.

– We applied two years ago as well, but lost by one vote to China. This is a great acknowledgment in the world of athletics – said the president of the Athletics Federation of Serbia, Veselin Jevrosimovic.

As for the 2017 European tournament, Jevrosimovic says that it was a good test.

– If we hadn't successfully organized the European Championship, we wouldn't get to organize the World Championship. It is a big thing to get both within five years.
