Contract on reconstruction of Republic Square published, price of works RSD 768.3 million

The Belgrade Land Development Public Agency published the Contract on the Works on the Development of the Republic Square on Friday, November 1. According to the contract, the net value of the reconstruction works is RSD 768,262,900.91 and the completion deadline period is 420 days from the possession of the site.

The rearrangement of the blocks paving the driving lanes on the square have been carried out at the expense of the contractor, and the Agency claims that the final price of the works will be lower than that in the contract, announced the Information Secretariat of the City of Belgrade.

The contractor was also obliged to secure the technical staff and the technical capacity that would be active round the clock throughout the period of the realization of the contract.

The quality of the works is secured with an additional banking guarantee of RSD 76.8 million for the removal of flaws within a guarantee period of three years.

The reconstructed area has close to 1.5 hectares, from which over 150 objects have been removed in order to get an open and accessible multifunctional space, it is said. Stone block and slabs of various proportions now cover the square, with the pedestrian and the driving areas clearly demarcated. The new public lighting has a functional and a decorative aspect, and the color and the intensity are suitable for various events.

The pedestrian section is covered with 4,609.6 square meters of Tonalit-type granite slabs and 4,383.69 square meters of blocks made of Jablanica granite.

The driving lanes feature 4,009.81 square meters of blocks made of Jablanica granite, which is used in squares in the region and in Serbia and whose origin has been confirmed in a report by the Faculty of Mining and Geology in Belgrade.

There's over a meter of road base below the surface, enabling the planned traffic frequency on the Republic Square.

Over a hundred new lights have been installed and operate within a remote control system.

Twenty-seven new trees have been planted on the pedestrian parts of the square. Together with the trees planted previously, the number of trees on the Vasina-Makedonska-Kolarceva Street stretch is fifty-three.

The base of the Monument of Prince Mihailo and the four surrounding candelabras have been reconstructed. The cleaning and the conservation of the monument itself are not covered by the contract. These works are being done through a separate public procurement procedure, within which the contract is currently being signed with the selected bidder.

During the project, around 25 meters of water and sewerage pipes were replaced and reconstructed, as were the power and TC networks.

The project of the reconstruction of the Republic Square was carried out in line with the design which won the first prize at the urban planning and architectural contest which took place in 2015, and the public procurement procedure for the works was carried out in mid-2018. Two bidders made offers within the open public procurement procedure, with Strabag's offer being more favorable. The contract on the reconstruction of the Republic Square was signed with this company, it is said in the press release.

By the end of the year, the Agency will prepare the final bill, once all the planned and unplanned works are taken into account, the press release.
