Projects with China worth EUR 13 billion – Investment cooperation to increase

Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic talked to a delegation of the Ministry of Commerce of China, led by Vice Minister Chen Keming, the Ministry announced.

– The economic cooperation of Serbia and China is getting better and better and is stimulated by good and strong ties of the two presidents. Those good relations and their mutual visits reflect on an increase of the trade between the two countries, which is 15 times larger compared to 2008 and three times as large as in 2018 – Mihajlovic said.

She emphasized that the economic cooperation of the two countries is especially good in the field of infrastructure, where the value of the joint projects is around EUR 13 billion.

– Chinese companies bring knowledge and modern technologies to Serbia and that is why it’s good for us to build highways and the first high-speed railway in this part of Europe together – Mihajlovic said and added that the first freight train from China had arrived too, delivering the equipment for the Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway.

Chen agreed that the level of economic cooperation was high.

– Serbia is the first country to sign the Memorandum of Cooperation within the “One Belt, One Road” initiative and we have seriously analyzed the possibilities of cooperation with Serbia in the implementation of this initiative and the reindustrialization of Serbia. We will keep inciting Chinese companies to go to Serbia and invest – Chen said.

Another topic during the meeting were concrete ways of further enhancement of economic and trade cooperation, including the formation of a special task force for investments, for which the agreement should be signed at the next summit of the prime ministers of China and 17 countries of central and eastern Europe.
