Electronic bus fare payment in Novi Sad from November – System to be installed by Telekom Srbija and Bus Logic

The Novi Sad public transport enterprise (JGSP Novi Sad) is implementing an electronic bus fare payment system.

A public procurement procedure for renting and maintaining the full equipment of the payment system in buses was carried out, for which purpose RSD 5 million was set aside.

Two companies, Telekom Srbija Belgrade and Bus Logic Pozarevac, made a joint bid worth RSD 4.9 million. JGSP Novi Sad will sign an agreement with these two companies in the upcoming days. The companies will oblige to deliver the devices within 60 days of the signing of the agreement, so the system can be expected to start operating in November.

The details about the way the new tickets will be purchased or issued are not yet known.

As the head of the Transport Sector at JGSP Novi Sad, Darko Vranic, said, that kind of the bus fare payment system will first be implemented in around a hundred vehicles which operate the city lines, as the system is to be implemented in phases:

– Due to the technical characteristics of the device, we will first implement the electronic system on city lines, as it requires the map to be digitized and the zone tariff system to be implemented on all these devices.

Among other things, JGSP Novi Sad requested for the devices to enable the topping-up, the extension and the validation of electronic tickets in the vehicles, the supervision of their issuing and use in the vehicles, the following of the current location of the vehicle on the digital map for the purpose of providing information to dispatchers and sending back the information to the users through a web-display etc.

The documentation also says that the procuring entity obliges to enable the system to be upgraded, entailing the implementation of online ticket sale and a real-time display or mobile app-based information system for the passengers.
