Chinese most numerous foreign tourists in Serbia

Of the foreign tourists that have visited Serbia in the past months, Chinese tourists are the most numerous, said the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications of Serbia, Rasim Ljajic.

He added that, based on the data for the first seven months of 2019, tourists from China had a total of 73,559 arrivals, a growth of 39% compared to the same period last year.

– At the same time, the guests from China are second when it comes to the number of overnight stays, with a total of 135,386 overnight stays in Serbia, a growth of as much as 51%. According to this parameter, tourists from Bosnia and Herzegovina are still first with slightly over 160,000 overnight stays – Ljajic told Tanjug.

Minister Ljajic also said that, judging by the results of the tourist trends in the January-July period, there had been a change. Of the former Yugoslav states, only Bosnia and Herzegovina remains among the top five countries when it comes to the number of arrivals. Turkey is third, Germany fourth and Bulgaria fifth.

– It is important to point out that the number of overnight stays of tourists from Russia has grown by as much as 40%. All thing considered, this will be a record year when it comes to guests from Russia – Ljajic said and added that Russian tourists had realized a total of 113,830 overnight stays in the first seven months.

In the January-July period, Ljajic said, 2,042,667 tourists visited Serbia, a growth of 5.4% compared to the same period last year. Of those, local tourists made up 52%, whereas foreign tourists accounted for 48% of the total number of arrivals.
