Serbia becomes 73rd non-regional member of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank

The Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali said that the membership was great news for Serbia who now had the access to affordable loans for the implementation of priority projects, the Ministry of Finance confirmed in a press release.
The Ministry pointed out that Serbia has fulfilled all necessary procedures and membership conditions. Namely, Serbia has adopted a Law on the Confirmation of the Founding Act of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the National Assembly, deposited the instrument of accession paid the first installment of its share in the bank's capital.
The Resolution of the AIIB Board of Governors adopted on August 15, 2019 confirmed that Serbia has meet all required conditions and approved the membership.
The press release reminded that the Minister Mali submitted the official request for membership in 2018.
The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, based in Beijing, has begun operation in 2016. Aside from Serbia, its new non-regional member, banks members outside of The Asia-Pacific include Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Spain and others,
The Resolution of the Board of Governors also confirmed Greece as a 74th member of that international organization.
