The Russian Railways are interested in reconstructing the Belgrade-Bar railway and the documentation for the project is currently being gathered.

Mansurbek Sultanov, the representative of RZD International in Serbia, stated this for RTS.

– The section to Valjevo on the Bar railway is already finished, but that is not the most critical part. It's the one toward Zlatibor and further to the border with Montenegro – Sultanov said.

– In order for the projected speed to be enabled and for the railway to be modernized, there needs to be modern safety infrastructure, a new contact line and signalization – Sultanov told RTS.

He also said that the Russian Railways reconstructed the most difficult parts of the Belgrade-Budapest railway, from Stara Pazova to Novi Sad, in the length of 44 kilometers. A half of the section on the railway between Stara Pazova and Novi Sad has already been reconstructed, and the works on the viaduct and the tunnel through Fruska Gora are in progress.

– The viaducts are being done parallel with each other in the length of three kilometers. As for the tunnel through Fruska Gora, there are two tubes in the total length of 2.2 kilometers. We are waiting for a large expropriation which should be completed by the end of August, which will be followed by the next 10-km phase from Sremski Karlovci to Petrovaradin and Novi Sad – Sultanov said.

According to him, Serbia has a very good position and shouldn't lose its status as a cargo transit country, which is why certain reconstruction works were done without closing the routes for traffic.

– Corridors 10 and 11 are the most important for rail and road traffic, which is why the strategy that's being carried out by your government and the competent ministries is good – Sultanov concluded.
