Cement factory "Lafarge" celebrated 170th anniversary of work - Beočin-based cement factory among world's leading cement factories within "Lafarge group"
- Ever since it became a part of multinational group "Lafarge", the cement factory in Beočin has been producing 1.2m tons of cement per year - it was said at today's (September 10, 2009) celebration of the 170th anniversary of work of that cement factory.
The Director General of the Beočin cement factory, Kostin Borc, said that, after seven years of presence in Serbia, "Lafarge" had contributed to the fact that the cement factory in Beočin was one of the most important drivers of economic development in Serbia.
The Vice President of "Lafarge group", Gion Ru, said that over 60m EUR had been invested in the factory in Beočin in seven years, as well as few millions more in the projects of local communities.
He added that the factory had hired large number of young engineers over the last few years, 40 of whom were in managerial positions.
The President of the Executive Council of Vojvodina, Bojan Pajtić, said that Beočin-based cement factory was the example of successful privatization with serious foreign partner.
According to the announcement, "Lafarge" delivered 1.3m tons of products to the market last year, while the use of the furnace amounted to 99.1%, which put the factory in Beočin among top three factories within "Lafarge group" in the world.
"Lafarge group" is today one of the world's leading manufacturers of building materials. It is present in 79 countries and has 84,000 employees.
The celebration occasioned by the 170th anniversary of the Beočin cement factory will be organized tonight in the National Museum in Belgrade.
