NEDIMOVIC: Price of wheat 21 dinars per kilogram, around 1 million tons to be exported

(Branislav Nedimovic) Serbian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Branislav Nedimovic said that he expected Serbia to have wheat yields of around 2.7 million tons this year, and that around a million tons will be exported.

Answering the MPs’ questions at the National Assembly of Serbia, Nedimovic said that he expected wheat yields of 4.7 to 4.8 tons per hectare.

Along with commodity reserves, the Government of Serbia will buy out a certain amount of wheat at the Agricultural Commodity Exchange, Nedimovic said talking about the price of wheat in Serbia at the moment.

The minister said that he expected the price of wheat to be 21 dinars per kilogram and said that its current price was at around 24 dinars per kilogram in the market, which he deems a good result of certain developments in the regional market.

The minister explained that there had been adverse weather conditions during the sowing in 2018, but that the yields were not as bad as claimed.

When it comes to the export of Serbian wheat to Africa, Nedimovic reminded that there had been no exports for three or four decades and that the certificate for exports to Egypt had been obtained in March 2019. He pointed out that Serbian companies had taken part in tenders for the export of wheat to Egypt and that the results of the tender were expected to be announced soon.
