Vaccination against new influenza by the end of November
The health authorities of the European Union recommended yesterday (August 27, 2009.) that all persons older than six months who suffer from chronic respiratory diseases and heart diseases, then pregnant women and health workers should be the first to be vaccinated against the new flu. From the EU underline the fact that at first there will not be enough vaccine available to all, and that the distribution of vaccines would take some time.
According to Dr. Branislav Tiodorovic, a member of the Working Group on pandemic influenza, the first to reach at the end of September in Serbia is a seasonal vaccine against ordinary flu. It is very important, stresses the doctor, that it receive, as before, most vulnerable layers of population, above all children, chronic patients and elder persons over 65 years.
- A new flu vaccine is expected by the end of November. It will be provided according to priorities, and that is to children up to the age of 14, to young people with chronic diseases, above all diabetics, pregnant women, health workers and employees in the public services such as police and army - said Dr. Tiodorović.
According to recommendations from the EU, at first all persons older than six months with chronic illnesses that could be complicated during the infection should get vaccinated. Once again they remind that vaccination against influenza A H1N1 should not be mixed with regular vaccination against seasonal influenza, which should also be implemented.
