The French company Egis has completed the General Project and the Previous Feasibility Study for subway lines 1 and 2, under the contract with the City of Belgrade, and the final report has been accepted by the city’s commission for this phase of the project, eKapija learns exclusively.

As Goran Tadic, a senior engineer for bridge construction and civil engineering at the French company, told our portal, the General Project and the Previous Feasibility Study cover elements envisaged in Serbian law and the project task.

He said that Egis had done a study of transportation demand, a proposition of the urban integration of the subway and connecting it with other means of urban and suburban and inter-city transport (train, BG voz, tram, bus and trolley), based on the Smart Plan from 2016 and the guidelines provided by public utility enterprises.

– Several options for the two subway lines were analyzed, with propositions for routes, stations with platforms, the Cut & Cover construction technology, deep tunnels, in the field and on viaducts. Park & Ride locations were proposed, as well as reorganization and reduction of public transport lines. A study of organization and management in exploitation was done, the necessary systems, electromotor compositions, energy capacities, workshops and depots were shown. An estimate of investment and exploitation costs, maintenance costs and direct economic benefit was made. A socio-economic estimate was done and indirect effects were listed – Tadic told eKapija.

According to him, the following routes were adopted: Line 1, Zeleznik – Mirijevo, with 21.3 km and 23 stations, and Line 2, Zemun railway station – Mirijevo, with 19.2 km and 20 stations.

– The route is mostly underground, except in Makisko Polje, where a section of Line 1, would be located on a elevation of an average of 2 meters. The two lines cross at Sava Square, where passengers can switch between lines. Parallen stations for both lines are planned in Mirijevo. There should be a tunnel beneath the Sava for Line 2. A part of Line 2 in New Belgrade might be built on a viaduct – Tadic says.

The first phase would most probably entail the construction of Line 1 from Zeleznik to Karaburma.

Let us remind that the Government of Serbia has recently formed the Task Force for the realization of the Belgrade Subway project, whose task it is to prepare acceptable technical, commercial and financial solutions for the realization of this project together with Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA).

As Goran Tadic told our portal, Egis completed the General Project and the Previous Feasibility Study for lines 1 and 2, under the contract.

– We assume that talks about the next phases of financing, designing and building the subway system with POWERCHINA are ongoing – Tadic said.

In late December 2018, the company for the construction of the subway system was founded by a decision of the City of Belgrade, and Deputy Mayor Goran Vesic stated at the time that the total value of the works would amount to EUR 3.6 billion, of which the first phase will cost EUR 1.3 billion.
