Finishing works at Morava Airport – Boeings and Airbuses to land at Ladjevci from June 28, 2019

The opening of a part of the military airport for civilian traffic in Ladjevci near Kraljevo will no longer be postponed. The airport will be available to civilian airplanes from June 28, 2019, as recently promised by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

A small air show has also been announced for that date by certain ministers, as can be seen from the works in progress – the extension, expansion and lighting of the runway, the testing of the equipment and the equipping of the terminal.

This has been confirmed for Politika by Mihajlo Zdravkovic, the CEO of the Airports of Serbia, the state company which owns Morava. He added that the Government of Serbia had invested over a billion dinars in the finishing works.

– The airport needs to be certified by the Civil Aviation Directorate, that is, it needs to be confirmed by experts that, after the reconstruction and other activities, larger passenger planes, such as Boeing 737 or Airbus A320, will be able to land here – Zdravkovic says.

He adds that there will be 51 employees initially, enough for the airport’s operations in one shift, and that the selection among the 369 applicants is in progress.

Immediately after obtaining the certificate and opening the civilian airport in Ladjevci, the Airports of Serbia will notify companies they believe might be interested, as this pertains to establishing local and international air traffic from the region in which around 800,000 people live, which features well known tourist centers, and it is also in the interest of business people for there be a cargo air transport service, in addition to the passenger transport service.
