"Alpine" to start works on road to Nova Varoš on September 1st
The main route section that connects Serbia and Montenegro, between Kokin Brod and Nova Varoš, 11 km long, will be refurbished by Austrian company "Alpine". This company won on the tender by offering the price of 427m RSD. The works will commence on September 1st at the latest, and the deadline for their completion is one year.
Money has been provided from the loan of the European Investment Bank. Works on this section will be carried out on two bridges, certain curves will be straightened and supporting wall will be built.
There are four "black spots" on the road that goes along Zlatar Lake and through the valley of Zlošnice, and then rises to 1,000 meters above the sea level. However, drivers claim that the whole route is one big "black spot". Curves are sharp, while lanes are narrow and damaged, with numerous mendings and holes. Traffic safety is also endangered by rockfalls and landslides towards the Zlošnica river.
Two years ago, on June 15th, at the celebration of completion of reconstruction of the main route section to the seaside, from Zlatibor to Kokin Brod, it was announced that the works on the last and the worst section between Kokin Brod and Nova Varoš would commence soon. However, "Putevi Srbije" was late with the announcement of tender, and the job was first given to Road company "Beograd". This spring, the contract with this road maintenance company was canceled. The second tender was announced at the beginning of summer.
