(The future exterior of Hotel Merkur Palace) The Special Hospital Merkur in Vrnjacka Banja started raising a new facility, Merkur Palace, in July 2018. This is a four-star facility, for whose construction the said institution has recently been provided with a credit from the Development Fund.

– To the end of development and enhancement of the quality of service, Merkur started building a new luxury facility, Merkur Palace, last year, in order to realize the vision of providing top quality health tourism services, for both local and foreign, well-paying and demanding guests. It will be an exclusive medical and spa center comparable to a four-star hotel. So far, Merkur has been building Merkur Palace using its own funds, and the proceeds from the investment credit approved by the Development Fund will be used for the further construction – Bojana Beljic, PR Manager of the Special Hospital Merkur, says for eKapija.

As she says, the total accommodation capacity of Merkur Palace includes 58 luxury rooms and apartments, whereas the total area of the facility will exceed 6,500 m2.

– Additional features include a wellness and spa center, a fitness center, an aesthetic medicine unit, a multifunctional hall, a medical unit with full diagnostics and therapies, with all the accompanying features of a modern spa and medical center, while employing a natural factor, the warm mineral water of Vrnjacka Banja – Beljic points out.

As already said, the construction of the facility began in July 2018 with the laying of the foundation stone. The value of the investment has been estimated at around EUR 8 million, and the plan is for the construction to be carried out in three phases.

– The first phase entails rough construction works, whereas the second one entails the installation of the machinery. The third phase entails works on the exterior and landscaping. The rough construction works are close to being completed. They should be finalized in June 2019 – says Bojana Beljic.

The completion of the construction of Merkur Palace is planned for the end of 2020, and, according to the current feasibility study, 20 new workers will be employed, our interviewee says. When it comes to the contractors, of the three large companies which had competed for the first phase of the construction at Merkur's tendering procedure, the Novi Sad-based company Dijagonala won the contract, which was signed in May 2018.

– The contractors and the suppliers for the next two phases will be picked through public procurement procedures – says Bojana Beljic.

Discussing the plans of the Special Hospital Merkur for the upcoming period, our interviewee says that the most important job at the moment is to complete the construction and put the facility into operation.

– However, regular maintenance and upgrade of the existing capacities, regarding both the accommodation and the treatments and therapies, are being carried out simultaneously – Bojana Beljic says for eKapija.
