Serbian meat to be available in Persian Gulf countries from May – Investments in opening of new processing facilities necessary

Serbian producers of beef, lamb and poultry will be able to export their products to the countries of the Persian Gulf from mid-May.

The strategy of the Ministry of Agriculture in the past period was to open new markets, the Persian Gulf, Turkey and northern Africa, in order to increase the export of red meat primarily, Serbian Agriculture Minister Branislav Nedimovic told Tanjug.

The international certificates for export have been harmonized and halal standards remain to be met, which is why a delegation of Saudi Arabia and the certification company Esma visited Serbia this week.

– We need new markets for the export of red meat. So far, it has been limited to nearby countries. Beginning with mid-May, we will be able to export beef, lamb and poultry to the countries of the Persian Gulf – Nedimovic said.

The markets for the export of meat to Turkey and China have been open since last year. However, the minister adds, Serbia needs new markets, so that it wouldn’t be dependent on the changes in the global and the regional market.

He says that there is currently a temporary halt in the export of meat to Turkey, but that he expects this problem to be solved in the next month to month and a half.
