Representatives of the company DP World, the new owner of the Port of Novi Sad, intend to invest EUR 30 million in the company. They said so at a meeting with Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic, who emphasized that this would be the biggest investments in the water transport in Serbia.
As she added, this is one of the world's biggest companies in this field and they will be provided with all the help they need by the local self-government and the Government of Serbia when it comes to all the procedures necessary for this investment to be realized.
– The plan is for Serbia to become a multimodal hub in the Western Balkans and to connect the Danube and the Sava with the road and rail Corridor 10 by 2021. That's why this investment is so important for Serbia.
The minister also announced that Serbia was interested in investing in the ports of Smederevo and Belgrade.
Rashid Abdulla, the CEO of DP World for Europe and Asia, said that the purchase of the Port of Novi Sad was the company's first investment in the Balkans. As he says, they are aware of the importance of the Danube when it comes to connecting Europe.
Let us remind that one of DP World's members is P&O Ports Dubai, which offered EUR 7.99 million for the Port of Novi Sad.
The signing of the privatization contract on the purchase of the Port of Novi Sad with DP World is planned for May 6.
