Universities from Serbia and America to join efforts in improving food industry

The UC Davis Center, one of the leading agricultural universities in the U.S.A. and the world, and Agronet, the Center for Education and Research at the Faculty of Agriculture in Belgrade, have began cooperating on creating new models of education for this industry.

A three-member team of professors from the Californian UC Davis Center visited companies in Serbia, gaining insight into the situation in the fruit and vegetable processing industry.

After the visit, the team carried out preparations for the creation of courses at joint workshops with Agronet.

The aim of this cooperation is to develop a sustainable model of continuous education through creating innovative certification courses to be carried out at the Faculty of Agriculture, for the development of professionals and further development when it comes to companies' employees.

The courses will be created based on the industry's needs, and the UC Davis team will try to transfer their experiences to professors in Serbia, especially when it comes to cooperation with companies, choosing the courses' topics, how to animate companies, what the university offers, which teaching methods they recommend etc.

At these courses, the participants will work on solving problems they meet in their work, developing their efficiency and productivity.

The USAID Competitive Economy Project signed an agreement on cooperation with the UC Davis Center on long-term strategic cooperation to the end of upgrading the higher education university system in the food industry in Serbia.

This way, the project helps initiate the process which will enable the deepening of the cooperation between the university and the private sector, the building of mutual trust and investments in knowledge and technology, in order for Serbian companies to become more competitive in the international market.
