Construction of protective structure of laminated wood for Villa with peristyle in Mediana
Within the scope of organization of Mediana complex, the Institute for protection of cultural monuments in Niš has just announced the open competition for construction of protective structure of laminated wood with PVC cover for the Villa with peristyle at this exceptional archeological site.
This exceptional precious archeological site stretches over an area of 11 square kilometers, and the plan is that the most significant parts be covered by light prefabricated structure, for the purpose of which the Ministry of Culture already provided 50m RSD. Since the value of these ambitious works run by the Institute for protection of monuments exceeds 100m RSD, the rest of the money will be provided from the National Investment Plan.
In addition to the Villa with peristyle, both "Terme" and "Nimfeja" will be covered, and it is very important that, among the rest, about 500 square meters of floor mosaics and elements of wall painting be protected in this way.
Mediana represents both economic and residential complex, which was three Roman miles away from Naissus at the time. That is where Roman and the first christian emperor Constantine the Great was born, and the city was at its peak in the period 317-334 AD. Mediana kept on living long after Constantine's death.
