Legendary VW Beetle to be retired after 70 years

In late 2019, after seven decades, the final model of the famous Volkswagen Beetle will be produced, announced CEO Herbert Diess at the Geneva Motor Show.

Although it has been speculated that going electric might save this legendary model, the EV model inspired by the cult car will not be its successor, and Beetle Final Edition SE, whose starting price is around EUR 21,100, will be the final Beetle produced with an internal combustion engine.

– You have to do something emotional, but I think we can't cover the historic lineup of Volkswagen with electric cars, and we shouldn't – Diess said, announcing the retirement of the famous Beetle, after several million cars sold, B92 reports.
