The World Wide Web celebrated its thirtieth birthday on March 12, and there was also cause for celebration in Serbia, as the .RS national domain celebrated its 11th anniversary this March.

The registration of the .RS domain began on March 10, 2008, at noon, and a total of 104,193 registered domain names celebrated the 11th birthday, according to the Serbian National Internet Domain Registry (RNIDS), which manages the .RS and .SRB national internet domains.

The .RS domain didn't celebrate its birthday unprepared. It provided its users with new Latin alphabet characters which can be used in registering a domain name.

As RNIDS reminds, a free registration of an IDN (Internationalized Domain Name) has been enabled since March 5 within the .RS domain.

A total of 67 Latin alphabet characters used in 13 languages spoken in Serbia can now be used in domain names. All those who want to can register an .RS domain using the letters of not just the Serbian language, but of Albanian, Bosnian, Croatian, Czech, German, Hungarian, Montenegrin, Romanian, Romani, Slovak, Slovenian and Wallachian.
