The president of the Municipality of Gornji Milanovac, Dejan Kovacevic, enforcement officer Milanka Savic from Cacak and Dragan Markovic, on behalf of the bankruptcy debtor, the Norwegian Society of Belgrade, have signed a sales and purchase agreement whereby Norveska Kuca (The Norwegian Home), a famous symbol of Serbian-Norwegian friendship, went into the hands of the Municipality of Gornji Milanovac.

The value of the agreement is RSD 11.9 million.

Kovacevic said on this occasion that the signing of the agreement marked the end of months-long speculations about who the owner of Norveska Kuca will be.

– The local self-government will take care of this very important cultural monument, in honor of our people who died in concentration camps, but also in honor of our friendship with the Kingdom of Norway – Kovacevic said.

He added that the Municipality of Gornji Milanovac would prepare a maintenance and reconstruction plan for the facility and, as he announced, during the celebration of the Day of the Municipality and the visit of a delegation of the brotherly Municipality of Vefsn, a meeting should take place between him and the president of the Municipality of Vefsn, Jann-Arne Loevdahl, in order to consider all the details of the Norwegian municipality's role in the ownership of Norveska Kuca.

In November 2018, Norveska Kuca avoided being sold over a debt. As the Secretary general of the Norwegian Society of Serbia, Dragan Markovic, said at the time, the Society signed an out-of-court settlement with the legal representatives, whereby the settling of the old debt of Norveska Kuca's restaurant was accepted.

Norveska Kuca was built 30 years ago thanks to donations by the Society of Yugoslav-Norwegian Friendship, the Municipality of Gornji Milanovac, the Government and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway and the Gornji Milanovac-based construction company Graditelj, whose director, Zivorad Bata Knezevic, was one of the survivors of the concentration camps in Norway.

The house merges the shapes of a traditional Serbian hut and a Viking ship, symbolizing the friendship of the peoples of Serbia and Norway.
