Four companies met conditions for tender for CDMA
The Republic Telecommunications Agency (Ratel) announced today (May 18, 2009) that all four companies that had applied for participation in the tender for allotment of licenses for fixed wireless telephony in Serbia - CDMA, had met the conditions of the open competition.
The bids have been submitted by "Telekom Srbije", Cable-Distributive System (KDS) "Novi Sad", Belgrade-based company "Media works", which has recently been taken over by Dutch holding "Greenhouse telecommunications", and "Digi sat" whose owner is Romanian RCS and RDS.
According to RATEL's announcement, the auction for allotment of two licenses on period of ten years will be held on Tuesday, May 19.
The Executive Director of RATEL, Milan Janković, said after he opened bids on Friday, May 15, that he expected that the licenses would be issued prior to mid-June, after which the companies would be able to start introducing telephony and Internet in CDMA technology.
Janković said that CDMA technology was suitable for sparsely populated rural areas where laying of telephone cables is not profitable.
