Lazar 3, new SAF combat vehicle

Serbian Defense Minister Aleksandar Vulin and the Chief of the Serbian General Staff, Lt. General Milan Mojsilovic, attended the training of members of the Serbian Armed Forces for the handling, use and basic maintenance of the new armored combat vehicle Lazar 3 on December 20 at the Nikinci proving ground.

The minister underlined that domestic knowledge, expertise, funds and plants capacities had gone into the making of Lazar 3.

Mojsilovic pointed out that the training was the final phase of enabling SAF members to handle Lazar 3.

According to the assistant director of Jugoimport-SDPR, Aleksandar Lijakovic, Lazar 3 has thereby been integrated into the arsenal of the SAF.

– In its concept, this is a whole new vehicle. It’s an 8x8 armored combat vehicle modeled after the leading combat vehicles in the West – Lijakovic pointed out and added that the vehicle was characterized by a very modern approach to armored protection, mobility and firepower and the ability to engage in combats of various intensity.

Lt. Colonel Goran Jovanovic of the Planning and Development Department, in charge of the tactical testing of Lazar 3, pointed out that he was satisfied with the new vehicle and the training.

Members of the SAF were given certificates of the successfully completed training.
