Environmental standards in production of lead - "Farmakom MB" invested 15m EUR in modernization of mine "Zajača"

- The equipment has been procured from the world’s most famous company "Seri". We’ve bought a filter unit that meets all EU standards, two large drum furnaces, stations for oxygen and laboratory that enables quick complete analysis of metals. In the separation procedure, grid and lead paste are obtained from old car batteries. Granulated plastic is used in production of new battery boxes, while natrium-sulfate comes in use in the industry of detergents, so that there is no waste that can endanger environment. We are producing top-quality refined lead for our factory of car batteries in Sombor, while surplus is exported to European market – says Vojin Rašić, the Director of mine and smelter "Zajača".

Although the price of lead dropped in the stock exchanges all around the world, the situation is gradually improving. The advantage of the concern lies in the fact that it carries out several phases of lead refining, such as special alloys and hunting ammunition, and we register positive financial results. We daily produce about 150 tons of lead, but we lack raw materials for full use of capacities.

The use of old batteries reduces production costs by 30%. The use of semi-finished products is stimulated in developed countries because it both preserves environment and saves energy.

Therefore, as Rašić points out, it is inexplicable why the state does not allow import of raw materials from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary and Croatia, which do not have appropriate factory. The concern will, therefore, submit the request to the authorized institutions to resolve this issue as soon as possible.
