Monthly sticker for use of highways in Slovenia – 35 EUR
The Minister of Transportation of Slovenia, Patrik Vlačič, said today (May 5, 2009) that the price of the sticker for vehicles for use of highways in Slovenia must not be discriminating and unproportional.
In that way, Vlačič responded to the complaints of some countries that the stickers for use of highways in Slovenia were much too expensive and discriminating because they put foreigners in worse position than local users.
Vlačič said that, if the European Commission’s process against Slovenia because of the prices and expiration terms of the stickers was resumed, the Commission should explain why the charges were pressed only against Slovenia, and not against the other countries that had worse solutions.
Vlačič cited the example of Czech Republic where the proportion between the prices of weekly and annual stickers was worse than in Slovenia.
The process against Slovenia was started by EU at the beginning of this year, and it is primarily aimed at withholding of EU funds for construction of highways in Slovenia.
Slovenian Ministry of Transportation has recently prepared the draft amendment to the Law on Public Roads, which anticipates introduction of weekly and monthly stickers and revoking of six-month ones.
According to that amendment, the weekly sticker would cost 15 EUR, the monthly sticker would amount to 35 EUR, while the price of the annual sticker would be 95 EUR. The final decision about that will be soon made by the Government of Slovenia.
