Kitka wind farm gets temporary permit for production of electrical energy

The Board of Energy Regulatory Office of Kosovo has approved the application of the company Air Energy for temporary license of electricity generation for the Kitka wind farm with an installed capacity of 32.4 MW, the institution announced on its portal.

– The Board of Energy Regulatory Office today held its ninth session for this year. In this session, the Board approved the request/application of the company “Air Energy” LLC for temporary license (1 year) of electricity generation for wind park “Kitka” with an installed capacity of 32.4 MW – the press release says.

The investor is the Turkish company Guris Holding. The construction of the wind farm is finished, the Turkish company says on its website.

All the construction, mechanical and electro-equipment installation works are completed, Guris Holding says.

The wind farm is expected to generate 95.6 GWh of electricity annually. The power plant will have 9 units of GE 3.6 - 137 turbines with a hub height of 110 m and a blade diameter of 137 m.

In August 2017, Guris Holding announced the construction of new wind farms in Kosovo and Ukraine.

General Manager of Guris Holding, Musfik Yamanturk, said that a segment of 30 MW power plant in Ukraine and a 32 MW plant in Kosovo will start operating with full capacity in August or September 2018.

Being a member of the Energy Community, Kosovo obliges to have 25% energy produced from RES in its gross energy consumption in 2020, compared to 18.9% in 2009. In the latest annual report on implementation of the Energy Community, the southern province reached the share of 24.6%, above the share of 21.6% planned for the 2015-2016 period.

The Kosovo minister for economic development, Valdrin Luka, stated recently that the ministry plans to implement the quota of 100-120 MW, initially meant for hydro power plants, to projects of development of solar power plants and wind farms.

Around ten days ago, he also announced that Albania and the Pristina authorities intend to build a hydro power plant of 200 MW in the area between Dragas and Prizren.

Luka added that the project will be supported by the EU with EUR 20 million.
