One of the most successful Serbian shipyards went into bankruptcy at the moment it was supposed to celebrate a decade of operations. From the opening in 2008 till 2012, 35 vessels were produced at the Begej slipway in Perlez, not far from Zrenjanin. Due to the recession and a decrease in the demand, the company found itself in a financial crisis and the production gradually decreased. All the attempts of the owner of Belgrade's Bomex Group and the management to put the company back on its feet proved unsuccessful.
The bankruptcy proceedings were initiated in the Commercial Court in Zrenjanin in February 2018, following the blockage of the account for 1,097 days for the amount of RSD 172 million, and at the request of the company itself, which admitted that it was unable to repay its excessive debts. The creditors immediately agreed to collect their claims through the monetization of the shipyard's bankruptcy estate.
However, the auction will not have much effect, as the claims exceed RSD 2.5 billion. Former employees, who have not been paid back salaries, don't stand to gain much either.
