By the end of the year, modern buoys should be laid along the Danube, enabling safe navigation in all weather conditions, and Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Zorana Mihajlovic says that current investments in water transport amount to EUR 204 million.

At the presentation of the IPA project “Integration of Navigation System for the Monitoring of Navigation on the Danube”, she said that the project would upgrade the quality of navigation on the Danube. The project is 85% financed through the EU's IPA funds, whereas 15% of the funds are provided from the budget.

– This project also aims to raise the capacities and enhance our cooperation with the EU delegation – Mihajlovic said and added that she hoped that the deadline would be honored and that all the buoys would be installed by the end of the year.

She said that the old buoys from the Danube would be moved to the Sava, but that the plan was for modern buoys to be installed on the Sava and the Tisa in any case.

– Serbia is a country which truly has to invest much more and to use its water potential due to our position – Mihajlovic said and added that she expected the export down the Danube to increase and for a connection with the road and railway transport to be made.
