Urbas, an Austrian company which builds cogeneration facilities running on wooden biomass and produces hot water plants, will complete the first biomass-fueled cogeneration facility in Serbia in Boljevac in early 2019. The investor is BioEnergyPoint, the biggest producer of pellets in Serbia.

The cogeneration facility will be producing 2.5 MW of electricity and 8 MW of heating energy. The plan is for all works to be completed in early 2019, when the facility is to be commissioned, as Jasmin Purasevic, an engineer at Urbas, which once again presented at this year’s RENEXPO in Sarajevo, told eKapija.

– The entire turnkey project is ours. With this investment, BioEnergy Point gets the whole cycle, as the production of pellets involves fuel as a byproduct, the heat is used in the drying plant, and power is also produced, for which they have secured feed-in tariffs. A return on the investment should be made soon – Purasevic explained.

In addition to Serbia, Urbas is also working on four gasifiers in Croatia, in the Virovitica area, where it will be producing 450 kW of electricity and 880 kW of heating energy. All these projects, Purasevic says, prove that there’s an increasing trust in Urbas when it comes to the construction of cogeneration units.

As he explained, these investments usually pay off in 4-6 years.

Urbas, which employs 450 people and has built around 2,000 facilities worldwide, managed to build the biomass-powered heating plant in Prijedor in only seven months. This is their only project in B&H so far. Purasevic said that some other investments in B&H had been announced.
