The agreement on the cooperation in customs affairs between the governments of Serbia and Israel was signed on Friday, October 12, 2018, at the Customs Administration of Serbia and aims for an exchange of experiences and information to the end of suppressing customs violations, the Ministry of Finance announced.

At the initiative of the Customs Administration, the agreement was signed by high officials of the tax and the customs administrations of the two countries.

Embassy of Israel to Serbia Alona Fisher-Kamm signed the agreement on behalf of Israel, in the presence of the director of the Israel Tax Authority, Eran Yaakov, and the director of the Customs Administration of Israel, Avraham Ben Ardete, whereas Milos Timotic, the director of the Customs Administration of Serbia, signed the agreement on behalf of the Government of Serbia.

The agreement, which envisages a more intensive cooperation between the two countries’ administration, will enable an exchange of experiences, knowledge and new work methodologies, especially in suppressing customs violations and establishing and maintaining fast and safe communication channels for the exchange of information.

The signed document will be a framework for an improved cooperation between the customs services and contribute, as the ministry says, to keeping the borders safe in both countries.

The agreement envisages the sharing of experiences between the two customs administrations regarding all issues concerning customs regulations, and representatives of the Customs Administration of Serbia used this occasion to introduce the Israeli delegation to all the resources Serbia has at its disposal in this field, as well as the results achieved in the past period.

The ministry reminds that the total foreign trade with Israel in 2017, according to the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, amounted to more than EUR 59 million, and a growing trend in the trade of the two countries in the current year is noticeable, as the trade realized in the first nine months of 2018 is nearly identical in amount to the trade realized in the whole 2017.
