Trade between Serbia and Italy increases – New record of EUR 4 billion possible by end-year

Ambassador of Italy to Belgrade Carlo Lo Cascio met with representatives of over 80 Italian companies operating in Serbia on Friday, September 28, and pointed out that the trade between the two countries could reach and possibly exceed the record number of EUR 4 billion, the Italian embassy announced.

The availability of credits and European funds was discussed at the meeting.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Italian Trade Agency (ICE), Confindustria Serbia and the Chamber of Serbian-Italian Businessmen, and the aim was to directly compare the banking offer and the demand of Italian companies.

Representatives of EIB, EBRD, UniCredit and Banca Intesa presented to Italian businessmen, who employ over 25,000 workers in Serbia, the instruments of European and international funds, with a special focus on clients and small and medium enterprises.

In the first seven months of 2018, the trade between Italy and Serbia amounted to EUR 3 billion, with an increase of over 10% in both the Italian import and the Italian export compared to the same period of 2017, the announcement says.

– This encouraging trend should enable us to reach, and even exceed for the first time, the record number of EUR 4 billion in trade by the end of the year – Lo Cascio.

Macroeconomically, Serbia seems healthy, the GDP should exceed 4% this year, the inflation rate is around 2%, whereas the industrial production grew by 3.7% compared to 2017, the Italian ambassador said.
