State Secretary Tatjana Matic meets with PPF Group representatives – Serbia stimulates telecommunication development

State Secretary of the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, Tatjana Matic and PPF Group representatives , Marek Slacik and Mike Michel concluded in today’s meeting than new investments in the sector of telecommunications are needed for further market growth in Serbia.

– The government is strenuously working on creating conditions to stimulate investments in telecommunications sector so as to build a network and make the development of new services possible, Tatjana Matic pointed out as Tanjug reports Ministry's official press release.

She reminded that the Strategy for broadband network and service development was adopted and that it states the guidelines for the development of electronic communication. She added that the Law on electronic communications is expected to be adopted soon and that it would contribute to bigger efficiency and competence.

According to Matic the market growth year by year maybe not noticeable but it's stable. She added that revenue from electronic communication amounted to RSD 191,2 million in 2017 which is 4.3% of GDP.

Executive Vice-President for the Development of Retail Market for PPF Group, which is the owner of Telenor telecommunication companies in Central and Eastern Europe including Serbia, Marek Slacik said that Serbia had positive economic indicators, that it was a country with a significant GDP growth and and digitization is moving in the right direction, the press release states.


– Serbia is an excellent place for future investments in telecommunications sector. We have a clear vision how to contribute to market development and improve services for customers, based on the models that proved very effective in Czech Republic and Slovakia, Slacik said.

New CEO of Telenor Serbia, Mike Michel confirmed company's ambitions to keep the leading position in the region, the statement says.
