Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic stated yesterday that bridges in Serbia were secure and safe for traffic and that they were being maintained regularly, says a press release by the Government of Serbia.

In her statement for TV Prva, she pointed out that, due to public concerns related to the event in Genoa, she had ordered an extraordinary inspection supervision of bridges in Serbia, emphasizing that it was neither the first nor the last extraordinary supervision.

Enterprises “Roads of Serbia” and “Infrastructure of Serbian Railways” regularly maintain all the bridges on railways, highways and regional roads and all bridges are safe and secure, she repeated.

According to her, special teams have also been formed, which will first examine the three busiest bridges – Gazela, the Pancevo Bridge and the bridge at Beska, which are safe, but could be examined once again.

It's important for citizens to know that the bridges are being maintained, that they are being inspected regularly, Mihajlovic said.

At the same time, she emphasized that she would insist on determining the responsibility for the collapse of the wall on the Gornje Polje-Caricina Dolina section, in front of the Predejane tunnel on Corridor 10, and added that she believed that, in addition to nature, the human factor had something to do with it as well.

The most important thing is that the repair has started immediately, though it will take a few months, Mihajlovic pointed out and reminded that, after the first collapse, there had been an order to examine all the slopes, of which there are close to 100, with 20 of them being especially difficult.

The World Bank experts had sent their reports, the repair project had been prepared and the realization had started, but a gallery that would prevent the collapse had not been constructed in time, she explained.
