Opportunity Bank obtained 5m EUR worth of loan from EBRD for approval of loans to small and mid-sized enterprises in Serbia
Opportunity Bank in Serbia has announced today (March 5, 2009) that it has received the loan of 5m EUR from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
According to the announcement, this bank will use this credit line to approve the loans to the entrepreneurs and small and mid-sized enterprises in Serbia for development and employment.
- The loan will make it possible for Opportunity Bank to increase the crediting level and to provide support to micro and small businesses, which already have very difficult or no access to banking loans - the people from EBRD estimated.
Since the beginning of operations in Serbia in 2002, Opportunity Bank has approved over 70m EUR worth of loans to micro, small and mid-sized enterprises and, in that way, helped creation of more than 5,000 new jobs and maintenance of 40,000 existing ones.
Novi Sad-based Opportunity Bank is a member of global network of microfinance organizations Opportunity International, which was founded in 1971 and currently operates in 28 countries.
Some of the founders and stockholders of the bank are European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and Development Entrepreneurial Bank of Kingdom of Netherlands - FMO.
