DJORDJEVIC: Government to take measures due to lack of workforce

Serbian Minister of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy Zoran Djordjevic stated today that the Government of Serbia was taking certain measures as it had noticed the lack of workforce in certain fields, in order to avoid problems in the future.

He told RTS that there was the biggest lack of workers of old profiles and added that the Government of Serbia was looking to not only create new jobs but to also create the workforce qualified for those jobs.

– There's a lack of workforce and we are looking to create adequate workforce through retraining. We started with the IT sector and succeeded, as there was great interest. It's a popular profession now. We are now going through local national services in order to see which professions are needed and we organize tenders in order to gather people who can be retrained – Djordjevic said.

He said that there were efforts to harmonize the needs of the market with the educational profiles.

Regarding the implementation of the Law on Financial Support to Families with Children, which started on July 1, Djordjevic said that the first amounts should be paid to new mothers this month in line with this law.

– Everyone who has ever made a payment, at least one month, at least one dinar, have the right to a percentage from the state no matter for how long they've been absent – Djordjevic said.

He said that the payments would be regular and that they would be paid each month for the previous month.

– We expect the first payment for July to be made in August – Djordjevic said.
