Medinvest has bought the dilapidated building of the former Niteks of around 3,000 m2 in the Medvedja industrial zone, and its reconstruction is being brought to a close. This is the first investment in the field of industrial production in the past 50 years, as well as the first factory to become operational after 20 years.
The spacious production hall of around 1,000 square meters has been fully renovated, featuring new windows, new flooring, radiators, as well as LED lighting, installed throughout the factory, whereas the upper floor features a rack tower, providing an internet connection throughout the premises. The former dining hall is also being reconstructed and will feature 100 square meters of exhibit space, whereas workers are to be trained in another, smaller production hall. There are also two warehouses, for input and output, numerous offices that are also being developed, as well as toilets. Italian machines of the San Giacomo brand have arrived as well.
Everything is being organized by Mela Holding Group, with Muharrem Salihu as the board chairman.
– We have imported 110 machines, and the plan is to install another 140, in order to complete the project of 250 production machines. This is state-of-the-art machinery. These machines produce a pair of socks in two minutes and can run round the clock – Salihu says.
Exports worth EUR 8 million for the next year have already been contracted, and a job contest opened recently and lasts through August 10. There’s plenty of interest. The company has hired the consulting agency Adecco, which will select the workers. So far, over 100 candidates from Medvedja, Sijarinska Banja, Lebane and Leskovac have applied.
– The production can’t start without at least 50 workers. The workforce will be trained here, not outside the country, and will be hired in succession. We plan to form a full shift in three months, and we will later need another two months for all three shifts. All this requires 500 workers. Beginning with September, we are planning to export the first contracted amounts, smaller in volume – Salihu says.
Medinvest will initially produce all kinds of male socks and then also socks for children. Later on, it will start producing female socks.
– Our production program will initially not feature pantyhose. Instead, we will produce regular and knee-high socks made of cotton, wool and technical fabric, both for sports and for everyday use. The mechanical park of the latest generation for high quality products and machines for basic production will be installed in the factory in line with modern installation criteria, whereby attention is paid to the workers’ wellbeing – Salihu explains.
The products will be ironed with the help of steam and packed in packaging made in Serbia.
The road from the center of Medvedja to the factory is worn out, which leaves a bad impression next to the developed factory grounds. Salihu says that he is willing to finance a new layer of asphalt, but that requires authorization by the competent institutions, Jugmedia reports.
