Hertelendi castle to become children's paradise – Tendering for project documentation starts

The dilapidated Hertelendi castle in Novi Becej will become a recreational place for children aged 6 to 11.

A step towards the realization of new plans for the monumental edifice in Vojvodina is the tendering for the project documentation for the reconstruction and extension of the existing facilities and the construction of new ones within the complex, opened by the Directorate for Capital Investments of Vojvodina.

Let us remind that the Hertelendi castle housed a psychiatric hospital until 2005, and once it was closed, the facility stopped being maintained. The remediation and the construction of an extension for an institution for children with special needs started in 2011, but the works then stopped.

The issue of the project of reconstruction, entailing a new purpose for the complex, has now been re-addressed.

At a last week's session, the Provincial Government put the Directorate for Capital Investments of Vojvodina in charge of carrying out the procedures of the financing of the preparation of the technical documentation and the technical control of the project of the remediation of the Hertelendi castle, for which purpose RSD 15 million has been set aside.

The documentation says that the priority for the main facility, the castle, is to provide accommodation capacities for around 50 children, that is, two classes, as well as 2-4 teachers per shift, and the plan also includes the construction of a classroom, a computer classroom, a restaurant...

Considering the current state of the facility, the pavilion needs to be built from scratch and needs to have capacities for the accommodation of another 50 children.

The documentation also proscribes the planning of a recreational facility for gymnastics and body exercises with equipment suitable for preschool children and children in the lower grades of elementary school, with around 200 m2, and it also envisages a side facility for the storage of equipment, as well as a 400-m2 playground.
