The ministers in charge of trade, agriculture and economy of four countries of the region will meet on Wednesday, July 25, in Belgrade in order to consider the situation following the implementation of “protective measures” concerning the import of certain types of fruit and vegetables and corn by the temporary institutions in Pristina.

As the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications told Tanjug, minister Rasim Ljajic will host the meeting, and as announced, the meeting will be attended by Macedonian Minister of Agriculture Ljupco Nikolovski, Montenegrin Minister of Economy Dragica Sekulic and B&H Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Mirko Sarovic.

The ministers are expected to take a joint position on the latest decision of the temporary institutions in Pristina, which started implementing protective customs duties of 30% on the import of certain types of fruit and vegetables and corn several days ago.

Let us remind that the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the temporary institutions in Pristina is implementing a protective customs duty of 30% on the import of certain types of fruit and vegetables and corn, which pertains, as they said, to “all trade partners”.

As the duty pertains exclusively to seasonal fruit and vegetables (cucumber, tomato, pepper, cabbage, spinach, onion, carrot, legumes, potato, watermelon, cantaloupe, apple, pear, plum, cherry, sour cherry, strawberry, raspberry and blackberry) and corn, it is highly likely that the damage will primarily be incurred by the CEFTA members, Ljajic warned.
