The Ministry of Environmental Protection made an agreement with two store chains last year to start charging for plastic bags, and Trivan says that, in the first days since the plastic bags started being sold at the price of two dinars, the use dropped by 50%.
– At the moment, the numbers are even better, as we use 60% fewer plastic bags just for the fact that we charge for them now – Trivan told RTS.
At the end of the year, the results and the effects achieved will be summed up, and if they don't prove satisfactory, the competent ministry doesn't exclude the possibility of placing a permanent ban on the use of plastic bags.
The use of plastic bags is entirely forbidden in 35 states, and they are used increasingly less in the EU states.
