Cultural Center of Serbia in Beijing to open in September

The Cultural Center of Serbia in Beijing will most probably open in September, when, as Minister of Culture and Information Vladan Vukosavljevic says, the reconstruction of the premises in a globally important and influential art center, which will present and reflect Serbian culture and artists, is to be completed.

– I had expected the Cultural Center of Serbia in Beijing to open by mid-June, but the procedures in China and their administrative system are slightly different, and there has been a delay, but the process is soon to be completed – Vukosavljevic told Tanjug.

He clarified that funds had been set aside for the reconstruction, that the tender had been opened, that a contractor had been selected and that he believed that September was a realistic deadline for the completion of all works and for the Serbian cultural center in China to start working.

This is an area of 300 square meters in the very core of the exclusive art zone “798”, which features over 400 galleries, exhibition spaces and cultural centers from all over the world.

The Cultural Center of Serbia will be located across from the Goethe Institute and will open with the exhibition “A Trip through Contemporary Serbian Art”, displaying artworks by Mihael Milunovic, Nikola Kolja Bozovic, Ivan Grubanov, Ivana Basic, Djordje Stanojevic, Olivera Parlic, Brankica Zilovic, Branislav Nikolic and Vuk Cuk, which has recently been presented in Shanghai.

Vukosavljevic emphasizes that Beijing is turning into a global cultural center and that the opening of the Cultural Center of Serbia is the most important event in the international cultural cooperation of Serbia.
