(The agreement was signed by Vladimir Popovic and Philippe Brunet) The European Commission and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia signed an agreement on cooperation under which the BioSense Institute is becoming a regional center for the distribution of satellite images of the Copernicus European Earth Observation Program.

The agreement on cooperation was signed this Thursday, June 7, 2018, in Brussels by Philippe Brunet, Director of the EC Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry, and Vladimir Popovic, State Secretary for Science at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia.

As announced, thanks to the equipment and the expertise needed for the reception, analysis and storage of the Copernicus data, the BioSense has been given the exclusive right of distribution of the Sentinel satellite footage, which enables it to provide all the benefits of this program to the users in Serbia and the region. The data is free for all users.

The Sentinel satellites of the European Space Agency, as part of the EC’s Copernicus Program, provide free hi-res satellite footage invaluable to the optimization of agriculture, but also for land, sea and atmosphere observation and the monitoring of climate change, as well as for emergency cases and for the needs of civil security.

The Copernicus Program is the most ambitious and most successful program for Earth observation in the world. Under the agreement on cooperation, BioSense will coordinate and promote the usage of data produced within this program, in both state institutions, research centers and universities in the region and the private sector.

With the signing of the agreement on cooperation with the Republic of Serbia, as part of the European Neighborhood Policy, the European Commission enables the usage of Sentinel and Copernicus data for EU candidate states as well, adds the press release by the BioSense Institute.
