Fourteen local and foreign investors are currently operating or building factories in Industrial Zone Zmic in Paracin, primarily small and medium enterprises, the municipality’s president, Sasa Paunovic, said on Friday, June 1, 2018.

– Paracin bases its economy on small and medium companies. According to an analysis we performed with the Enterprise Association, small and medium companies have built office and production space in Paracin in the past four years equal in size to a large company such as Staklara or Stofara, which were giants in the time of the former Yugoslavia – Paunovic said.

He said that, in 2016, there were 320 employees in small and medium companies in Paracin.

– We are a relatively small municipality for large enterprises, which believe that there’s not enough workforce for them here – Paunovic said.

As for foreign investors, a Bulgarian company is building a plant of 1,200 square meters in the industrial zone and will employ nine workers initially, whereas the number will increase later on.

– An enterprise from France has also arrived to our industrial zone and it cooperates with a Paracin-based company which produces construction machines. They have already rented a hall and will employ around fifteen workers, who will produce precision mechanics components – Paunovic said.

The president of the municipality of Paracin reminded that he had also talked to the Swedish investor Rimaster, which should employ around 400 workers if it decides to invest in Serbia, and they’ve “narrowed down the choice to the municipalities of Paracin and Lebane”.

He also notes that Lidl has started developing the land it had bought in Paracin over a year ago in order to raise a store there.

– They have paid for the utilities, they were issued a building permit several months ago and, as they’ve promised, the construction starts in early June – Paunovic said.
