If you're planning to visit Los Angeles next year, you might be able to include the Oscar Museum, designed by renowned Italian architect Renzo Piano, in your tour.

Financed with donations by members of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which have reached the sum of USD 300 million, the Oscar Museum will consist of two buildings connected by bridges. The first one is a reconstructed department store, built in 1939, and the second one is a new spherical glass building.

The construction of this building was a huge challenge, Piano said.

– I don’t know if I can call this a museum or not. In some ways this is a museum. In some ways this is a factory – he said.

The famous Hollywood sign, placed on the hills above Los Angeles, will be visible from the balcony of the museum, which will open in mid-2019.

On an area of 28,000 square meters, on six floors, the museum will feature items related to Oscar winners, including posters, photographs, scripts, props and costumes.
