(Illustration) Remarkably good results were recorded in the construction sector in the first quarter of the current year, the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure announced on Saturday, May 26, 2018, and added that, along with an increase in the value of the works carried out by 28.1% compared to the same period in 2017, the number of building permits issued also grew by 14.1%.
– The majority of the construction permits were issued for buildings, 77.4%, and more than a half of that pertains to residential buildings. In March 2018 alone, the construction of 1,497 apartments was registered in Serbia, with an average area of 79.2 m2. Belgrade is leading in the construction of new buildings, with 36.5% of the projected value recorded, followed by the Rasina, South Backa and Central Backa Districts – the press release points out.
As said, the increase in the value of performed construction works is a preliminary estimate of the Statistical Office of the works carried out in Serbia, expressed in standing prices. By the end of May, when the final data will be known, the increase of the value of construction works is expected to exceed 30%, the press release adds.
The ministry points out that the construction sector had given the biggest contribution to the growth of Serbia's GDP in the first quarter of 2018, amounting to 4.5%.
– The positive trend is expected to continue in the upcoming months, keeping in mind the big infrastructural projects which are currently being realized and those whose realization is planned in the second half of the year, such as the beginning of the construction of apartments for members of security forces – the press release says.
